The 84th Gilderhus Lag Reunion was held Sunday, September 29, 2013 at St. Paul’s Liberty Church, rural Deerfield, Wisconsin. Relatives from the lines of Ola, Nils, and Gunvor Gilderhus were present and enjoyed a potluck dinner as they reconnected.
Following the dinner there was a special recognition of Eunice Phillips 90th birthday. Brother, Sigurd Lee spoke of Eunice as a child and some of the family’s treasured memories. Eunice spoke and introduced her many family members who were in attendance.
We were privilege to have as our guest speaker, Jim Le Febvre, author of “Forever Irish. He shared highlights from his book and also noted that there is a distant relation with Knute and the Gilderhus line.
Group Pictures were then taken followed by a quick meeting led by President Paul Bellrichard. The
Treasurer’s report was given by Arleen Scheel. We currently have $751.21. Discussion was held regarding the money we currently have in our account. It was noted we will be needing money on hand for expenses for the upcoming $175th Anniversary.
The secretary’s report was tabled. The death and birth notices were read and an update from the Minnesota/Iowa reunion was also given.
In old business,Gary Gausman updated us on lineage information he has found. Discussion was held regarding the 175th Anniversary in 2014. A 175th Anniversary committee consists of: Mary Gjermo, Martha Frey, and Paul Bellrichard. Help is needed with contacting Lag members. They ask that a member from each of the lines try to get as many additional and updated addresses as possible. Right now we are looking at a 3 day weekend September 26-28. Friday, Sept. 26 will start in Decorah, Iowa with a tour at the Vesterheim Norwegian Museum. We are looking at Saturday possibly being more family day activities such as the Corn Maze and possible farm tour. We are looking at having a catered meal. RSVP’s will be needed for many activities so information will need to be mailed out sooner than past years.
